Florence Ren Figueroa

Writer-director-producer Florence Ren Figueroa was raised and educated by a single-parent, an English-Argentine mother. Her father was a Bolivian lawyer and Supreme Court Judge and her uncle was Gilberto Rojas, the "Gershwin of Bolivia".  In the 80’s she produced award-winning Equity-Waiver Theatre in Los Angeles as well as working as a Casting Director for film, theatre and television with ABC, CBS, NBC, 20th Century Fox and Paramount.  She has worked with Director-Producer Michael Mann (Academy Award Winner for the film, The Aviator, Miami Vice and Ferrari). In the 90’s Florence began as a Personal Assistant and promoted to Director of Development for Producer, Mark R. Harris (The Harris Company – Academy Award Winner for the films Crash and Gods and Monsters).  By invitation, she became a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

 

Also in the early 90’s, Ms. Figueroa established Una Chica Entertainment and teamed with producer Ron Moler and director-editor Chris Hume to co-write and produce the controversial documentary, This Is Cuba.  TIC was awarded the Gold Winner of the Houston Int’l Film Festival – Worldfest ’95, also presented at the 2nd Annual Slamdance Int’l. Film Festival, Utah, ’96, the Official Jury Selection as a World Premiere and Closing Night Event in the Miami Int’l Film Festival in’97. Later it was represented by Unapix Int’l for foreign distribution and was presented at the Coachella Valley Latino International Film Festival, 2009 (-established by Florence along with partner Eli Winfield before it became one with the Palm Springs International Film Festival).

 

From the mid 90’s to 2001, Una Chica Entertainment held offices at Movies Reps International.  In 2000, UCE acquired it’s own production offices in Beverly Hills.  Under One Sky was conceptualized at this time by Florence and John Scholz. As production on the documentary began, it first consisted of interviews locally, nationally and then internationally. Desiring a quieter, peaceful lifestyle, in ’97 Florence relocated to Palm Springs, California where she opened Palm Springs first Yoga center, Bodhi Ren Yoga and continued writing, working on developing her own projects and being of service to her community.

 

Presently, Florence lives in Los Angeles, California and has completed two full-length feature film scripts, and the documentary, Under One Sky, currently in post-production. Also in development are: Dorian and The Euphoric Zone, (based on Athletic Spiritual Coach and Autistic Savant, Mark Dorian Wenner), Osho’s Mystic Dream and a book based on the Yoga Koruntha.  Florence has also written feature articles and interviews for: New Music Express, The Palm Canyon Times, Full Throttle Magazine, Vision Magazine, The Light Connection, The Desert Post Weekly, The Desert Star Weekly and in L.A. - Voice of The Village and, The Foothill Record. Currently, she is a syndicated columnist with her Astrological Affects column and is also the author of the book, EAT BY COLOR: Foods, Colors and The Chakras.

 

Live events that Ms. Figueroa has produced in the Coachella Valley include: the World Peace Day Festivals, Raw Spirit Celebration, The Coachella Valley Latino International Film Festival, 2009 and The Alive Spirit Celebration 2009-10.  Florence and Under One Sky Productions have been in support of and in association with numerous Non-Profit organizations.
